How to tone your muscles without bulking up

Many women avoid lifting weights when they go to the gym in case they wake up the next day looking like a female body builder. Even if you've been told that you don't have enough testosterone to build a lot of muscle there is definitely a psychological issue with lifting heavy weights.

So how do you tone up?
The best way to tone your muscles is by lifting progressively heavier weights whilst keeping your reps fairly low. When you do those sets with the pink dumbbells till your muscles burn this is fatiguing your muscles and is actually sending them the message that they need to get bigger! Your body then stores more glycogen in those muscles to let you go longer next time. That glycogen gives you bigger, bulky muscles! You want to do the opposite of this - lift heavier weights less times without going till you can't get another rep done. Stay away from failing halfway through a rep. Always leave one or two reps "in the tank".

Heavy weights??
Yes I know this means that you might have to use the same weights as the guys at the gym use, but there's no reason why you shouldn't. In fact you could even be lifting heavier weights than them eventually, all without bulking up. Just keep your overall volume low by keeping the reps low, whilst adding progressively more weight.

Adding these targets means that you can focus on doing what your body needs rather than just some cookie-cutter approach.

Since it is also designed only for women it really focuses on the exercises you need rather than what a guy who is wanting bulky muscles should use.
